MOUNT RUSHMORE

Sculptor Gutzon Borglum began his monument to American history in 1927. It took another 14 years to complete with workmen having to blast through 100 foot of rock.

No one died while building Mount Rushmore.•The sculpture cost $989,992.32 to build.
•There is a cave behind the carving called the "Hall of Records." It was intended to house the story of Mount Rushmore but was never completed due to lack of funding.
The Lakota tribe considers the Black Hills to be sacred, which is why many Native Americans still consider the monument controversial. This is also the reason why the Crazy Horse Memorial is being constructed without Federal assistance.
